The third division of the Supreme Court announced its decision on the damages lawsuit filed by TS Entertainment against Sleepy, on September 12, 2024, that the appeal is dismissed and the agency will be responsible for the legal costs, “The appeal is dismissed, and the costs will be handled by the plaintiff (TS Entertainment)”. To note, the agency has lost the first and second trials but still, it had appealed in the Supreme Court. The apex court ruled that they had reviewed the records of this case, the lower court’s decisions, and the grounds for the appeal, before announcing its verdict. As TS Entertainment’s arguments did not meet the Supreme Court’s conditions to review the appeal under the Special Act on Appellate Procedures, the appeal was rejected or dismissed.

For the unversed, the dispute between Sleepy and TS Entertainment began in April 2019 when the former sought the court’s help in seeking confirmation of the non-existence of the validity of his exclusive contract. In response to the civil lawsuit filed by Sleepy, TS Entertainment filed a counter lawsuit to sue him with claims that he had hidden part of his appearance fees and advertising income received from social media. The agency demanded 280 million KRW which is equivalent to $210,645, in counter-sued for damages. Meanwhile, the agency lost the initial trial with the court ruling that the fees were paid after the termination of the contract and were not subject to distribution. The lower court also ruled that the agency could not demand the damage money as the contract was terminated lawfully. Meanwhile, TS Entertainment was not ready to accept its defeat in the legal battle with rapper Sleepy and knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court which also upheld the lower court’s decision.

Celebrating his victory over TS Entertainment after five years, Sleepy shared a picture of the court’s verdict and wrote that he finally won the lawsuit. He also thanked the people who supported him in this journey. He also promised his fans to work harder and harder from now. Sleepy also greeted fans to enjoy the Chuseok holiday and thanked Lee Dong Jun of Approach Law Firm, who represented his case and helped him win this legal fight.
